The Psychology of Conformity

It’s perhaps the most powerful social and behavioural influencer of all, but few dare discuss it because it reveals some uncomfortable truths. In the end, conformity always requires one changes their behaviours in order to “fit in” and “get along.” That means agreeing with or acting like the majority of people in a group in order to be perceived as “normal” by the group, and thus, more socially desirable. But the outcome of this institutionalised groupthink can often be devastating, not just for the individual, but for civilisation as a whole.
